A hydraulic motor powers an oscillating cam connecting two cutting blades. Changing the hydraulic flow changes the speed of the blades. 2 inch opposing sickle sections allows the cutter to cut material up to 1 1/2″ inches in diameter. The 38- in cutter only requires 3 gal/min. hydraulic flow and can be adjusted to cut vertically, horizontally, or at any angle in between. It comes complete with the universal mounting loader bracket.

The Samurai is virtually maintenance free with sealed bearings and a self-lubricating motor. Sickles are easily replaced as they are fastened with capscrews, not rivets.

FAQs

What is the Weight of Unit?

70 Lbs. – Packaged Dimensions 12″ x 48″ x 12″

What is the Cutting Length?

38″ – 19 x 2″ sections on one stationary knife, and 19 x 2” on one moving knife

Do I need the mounting bracket to operate the Sabre?

Yes. The mounting bracket is required to properly attach the unit to a bucket and allow the Sabre to be positioned in different configurations.

What position can the Sabre operate?

The unit can be adjusted to cut in a vertical, horizontal, or any angle in between. The universal mounting bracket allows for a full 110 degree positioning angle.

What size of material can the Sabre cut?

The unit is comprised of two sections of sickles, which have just under a two-inch stroke enabling the unit capable of cutting material up to 1 1/2” in diameter. Because the Sabre cuts material from both sides, it leaves a nice clean cut.

How many GPM does the Sabre require to operate?

This unit only requires 3.3 GPM at 200-psi max to operate properly.

Where do I connect the hydraulics?

To an auxiliary hydraulic port on your tractor, loader or skid steer. If no auxiliary hydraulic port is available, then you can tap into the hydraulic pitch port on the bucket.

What is the cutting speed of the Sabre?

Optimum cutting speed of the unit is 80 – 100 RPM. You can count the moving sections by eye. If you cannot, the unit is operating too fast.

Can I use the Sabre as a sickle mower?

Yes. The unit can be positioned in this fashion. Many users utilize the Sabre to mantain growth underneath electrical fence lines.

How do I lubricate the Sabre?

All contact surfaces are greased when manufactured and should be inspected and greased regularly.

How long has the Sabre SAMURAI been in service?

The unit has been in service since 1983..

Are the sections a standard size?

No. They are 2″ sickle sections manufactured in Austria to the specifications of the Sabre. They are bolted on and not riveted making replacement simple and easy.

Are the sections smooth or serrated?

Serrated. We found that serrated sections “bite” the material better.

How does it compare to other cutters on the market?

As far as we are aware there are no other cutters on the market that compare to the Sabre for it’s versatility, cutting capacity, low operating requirements and ease of use.

What is the make and model number of the hydraulic motor?

We use the following:
Charlyn (H) Series – #101-1001
Or Dan Foss – #151-2121
Or Ross – #MK021310AAAB
The motors are interchangeable mount and capacity but if parts are required you should specify the make and the model to obtain the correct parts from any hydraulic repair depot.

Are hydraulic hoses supplied?

No. Due to the numerous different models of tractors, loaders and skid steers, it would be impossible to completely satisfy every customer with a standard length of hose.

Is there a longer version of the Sabre available?

We have found that 38 inch cutting bar is an optimum length to allow for easy manoeuvrability when used in either a vertical or horizontal position. If needed, some users will extend the 2” x 2” square tubing on the mounting bracket to enable the unit to have a longer reach.

I’m a Tree Farmer in Washington State USA. I purchased a Sabre Samurai Cutter several years ago to use to trim back brush on the sides of my forest roads and trails. After some hydraulic replumbing of my Landini Tractor loader joystick, and experimenting with the various mounting options the mounting bracket affords; I ended up hanging the Samurai vertically (Motor -top; cutters down) from the bucket and controlling the raising and lowering to follow terrain with the loader joystick. I can now cut right to ground level or reach up as high as 10′.
The Samurai is a rugged piece of equipment, well designed and well made. I did manage to bend the frame by hitting a tree, however…and quickly learned that Samurai offers gracious technical support and responsive parts service!!! It’s also easy to work on, should the need arise.

I confidently recommend the Sabre Samurai!

I’m a farmer from west central Saskatchewan I use my Sabre Samurai to trim trees on my farm and it works great.

I live on a farm in northern North Carolina. We have 350 acres of very mature forests and 250 acres of beautiful grazing land.We have more than 3 miles of well maintained gravel roads throughout.
Small trees and wild hedges called Privot volunteer and before long start crowding the roads and around the fields. For bigger tree limbs up to 6inches in diameter, we use a Limbhog chain saw on a boom that attaches to a 6 foot bucket on my smaller Kubota tractor model 3240 with 32 hp.Limbhogs are no good at shaving hedges and cutting limbs top to 1.5 inches…the very things the Samurai is made to cut.The Limbhog is too heavy. The owner of Limbhog told me to get a Samurai. I looked at the videos demonstrating the Samurai and bought it that day.
In two 6 hour days this week my workman cut limbs and hedges 8 feet back from the road opening the road up.With no experience using a Samurai he trimmed everything back 8 feet from 12 feet above the ground down to one foot above the ground. He did this on a one and a half mile road! The videos showed the clippings falling into the tractor bucket. We dumped the bucket on the ground. Then we used a grapple on the same tractor to gather up worlds of clippings and took them to our burning site 1/4 of a mile away. This saved us untold hours of hand pruning.I wish I had owned a Samurai for the last 20 year!!!
The Samurai does exactly what the say it will so. There isn’t any exaggeration in their information.
It cuts green limbs as big as 1and1/2 inches just like they promised. We attached the fitment as high as we could on the bucket end and trimmed from 12 to 6 feet above the ground. The we attached the bracket as low as we could and trimmed from 6feet to one foot above the ground. It did an amazing job trimming large shrubbery back 8 feet no matter how thick those hedges were. Finally they make it clear in the user manual to run it at a speed that allowed us to see the teeth moving back and forth. On our tractor we never ran the tractor higher than 1800 rpm’s. So samurai requires very moderate power.
My workman told me he would like to do this every day because Samurai is saving him huge amounts of hot work. Samurai is a great success!Email me if you have any questions at edcarter2731@gmail.com

I purchased the Sabre Samurai cutter for trimming back tree limbs at my hunting property. After you tweak it with the correct RPM and tractor speed it works great. I gave it 4 stars for one reason, it will not come close to cutting a 1-1/2″ limb as advertised. (It will if you let it chew away at the limb for 5 minutes) It does a great job on softer wood such as sweet gums, hack berry, pines, small oaks, privot and shrubbery. I’d recommend this cutter for maintaining roads, not cleaning new roads.
